Meet Amy Buswell
With 25+ years of experience spanning almost every facet of the public education system, Amy Buswell is a Teacher of the Year, an award-winning author, inventor of an innovative reading manipulative, and a passionate advocate for student autonomy and mastery-based learning. Throughout her career, she has served as a classroom teacher, a district literacy coach, an ESE support facilitator, District Specialist, and a school administrator.
But beyond the titles, Amy is an educator who believes deeply that learning should be an act of joyful discovery, not a measure of compliance.

The heart behind the work
After more than two decades inside the traditional education system, Amy recognized a growing, undeniable disconnect. The rigid, industrial-era classroom model—fueled rigid calendars, and a lack of student and teacher autonomy—was actively extinguishing the natural environment required for true learning. She watched brilliant students disengage and witnessed exceptional teachers burn out under the weight of unattainable expectations.
Amy realized that to truly serve students and empower educators, she couldn’t just work within the system. She founded Paddock Learning to create environments where education makes sense again.
